Davenport, IA – Temperatures are set to drop near freezing across eastern Iowa and western Illinois, with frost likely developing by late Sunday night and into early Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, cooler air moving in behind recent storms will keep conditions dry but noticeably colder through the weekend. Overnight lows will fall to between 31°F and 36°F tonight, then dip even lower into the upper 20s to mid-30s Sunday night, creating a broader frost risk.
Cities including Davenport, Moline, Rock Island, and Bettendorf will see gusty northwest winds between 25 and 35 mph Saturday, adding an extra chill and making outdoor cleanup efforts more difficult. Winds ease slightly Sunday, but cold overnight temperatures remain the primary concern.
Rural areas and low-lying spots face the highest frost potential, which could damage early-season plants and gardens. Residents are urged to cover sensitive vegetation and bring potted plants indoors.
Travel impacts remain minimal, though brisk winds could affect high-profile vehicles on open roads like I-80 and I-74.
Warmer temperatures return by Monday afternoon, with highs rebounding into the mid-60s. Additional updates may be issued if frost coverage expands Sunday night.
