Tulsa, Oklahoma – A surge of early-season heat is building across Oklahoma, with temperatures climbing toward record levels and increasing fire danger heading into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, highs will rise into the mid to upper 80s Thursday, then push into the upper 80s to low 90s Friday through Sunday. Tulsa is expected to reach near 90°F, with nearby cities like Muskogee, Bartlesville, and McAlester also approaching record territory.
This warming trend places temperatures roughly 20 to 30 degrees above normal for mid-March. Combined with breezy conditions and low relative humidity, the risk for wildfire spread will increase across eastern Oklahoma, especially in open and grassy areas near highways like U.S. 75 and the Creek Turnpike.
Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, secure loose materials, and use caution with equipment that could spark fires. Even brief ignition sources can spread quickly under these conditions.
The heat and dry pattern will persist through Sunday, with little relief expected until early next week. Additional fire weather alerts may be issued as conditions continue to intensify.
