North Carolina – Warm air is building quickly across the Triangle, and temperatures are surging toward summer levels today before a sharp shift brings cooler air and scattered showers by Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service, Raleigh will climb to around 92°F today under mostly sunny skies, with light winds turning southwest areas the afternoon. A cold front approaches Sunday, bringing a 40% chance of showers and wind gusts up to 30 mph as temperatures fall into the low 70s.

Through the afternoon, dry conditions dominate across Raleigh, Durham, and Cary. Roads remain clear, but heat will be noticeable for outdoor plans. Stay hydrated and limit strenuous activity during peak warmth.

By Sunday, clouds increase and scattered showers develop, especially late morning into the afternoon. While rainfall totals remain light, brief wet pavement and reduced visibility could impact travel along I-40, I-440, and U.S. 1. Winds will shift north and become gusty, adding a brisk feel compared to today.

The bigger change arrives into Monday morning. Temperatures drop into the low 40s, creating a sharp contrast from the weekend heat. While no freezing conditions are expected, the cooler air will feel crisp for early commuters. Expect sunshine to return Monday with highs near 70°F.

Looking ahead, a steady warming trend builds through midweek. Highs climb back into the 80s by Wednesday and Thursday, signaling a return to more typical spring warmth across central North Carolina.
