Louisville, Kentucky – Strong storms could begin impacting outdoor plans and travel by midday Saturday as a cold front pushes into central Kentucky.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, thunderstorms are expected to develop between noon and 7 p.m. as the front moves through southeastern Indiana into the Bluegrass region. Gusty winds are the primary concern, with straight-line winds potentially exceeding 60 mph in stronger cells.

Cities including Louisville, Frankfort, Lexington, and Elizabethtown may see brief downpours and isolated stronger storms during the afternoon. Areas north of the Bluegrass Parkway and into southern Indiana have the highest chance of seeing storms organize, though confidence in widespread severe weather remains low.

Morning showers could limit how intense storms become later in the day, but any breaks in cloud cover may allow storms to strengthen quickly. Motorists along I-64, I-65, and I-71 should be prepared for sudden changes in visibility and wind conditions.

Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and monitor alerts through the afternoon. Storm chances will taper off by Saturday evening, though additional updates are possible if conditions become more favorable for stronger storms.
