Illinois – Warm sunshine is quickly giving way to a volatile setup as fast-moving storms organize and prepare to sweep across central Illinois later today.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, isolated thunderstorms may begin by mid-afternoon, but a more organized line of storms is expected this evening into tonight. These storms could produce damaging wind gusts, large hail, and even a brief tornado. Storms will move სწრაფly to the northeast at around 50 mph, increasing the risk of sudden impacts across the region .
Champaign and surrounding areas will climb to near 83°F before clouds thicken. By evening, storms push into counties along I-57 and I-72, bringing bursts of heavy rain that could total up to an inch in some spots. Visibility may drop quickly on roadways, and ponding is likely in low-lying areas.
Minor flooding is already ongoing along the Illinois River near Havana and Beardstown, and additional rainfall could worsen conditions. Avoid flooded roads and monitor local alerts if you live near rivers or streams.
