Oklahoma – Thunder rumbles and shifting winds will quickly give way to a stronger threat as powerful gusts build across central Oklahoma by evening, creating dangerous travel conditions in just hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, a Wind Advisory takes effect at 7 p.m. and continues until 8 a.m. Saturday, with sustained north winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts reaching up to 50 mph across Oklahoma City and much of the state. These winds follow rounds of thunderstorms developing this afternoon, some of which could turn severe with heavy rain and lightning before conditions transition to wind-driven impacts.

Oklahoma City will see storms develop after early afternoon, with rain chances climbing to 80% into the evening. Localized rainfall could reach up to half an inch, quickly soaking roads along I-35, I-40, and I-44. Visibility may drop during heavier downpours, and brief wind gusts near storms could exceed 35 mph before the stronger, widespread winds arrive.

By late evening, the focus shifts to sustained high winds. Loose outdoor items could be blown around, and tree limbs may snap, especially in areas like Norman, Edmond, and Moore. Power outages are possible in spots. High-profile vehicles should use extra caution, particularly on open stretches of highway.

Conditions improve by Saturday with sunshine returning, though it will feel cooler with highs near 64°F. Clear skies continue into Sunday with a warming trend ahead.
