Bozeman, Montana – Snow and gusty winds are creating hazardous travel conditions across southwest Montana’s mountain corridors, with the worst impacts focused on high-elevation passes through midday Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Great Falls, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon MDT for the Big Belt, Bridger, and Castle Mountains, including Bozeman Pass, Battle Ridge Pass, and Deep Creek Pass. Snow accumulations between 2 and 6 inches combined with wind gusts up to 35 mph are reducing visibility and covering roads with slush and snow.
Drivers crossing mountain passes may encounter sudden drops in visibility and slick conditions, especially on curves and higher elevations. Backcountry travelers are also urged to prepare for rapidly changing weather and colder conditions.
In the Madison River Valley, including Ennis and Norris, lighter snow totals up to 1 inch are expected through 6 p.m. MDT. While less intense, slushy roads could still impact both the morning and evening commute.
Motorists should slow down, allow extra travel time, and check Montana’s 511 road report for current conditions. While snowfall will taper later today, slick spots and reduced visibility may linger into the evening hours.
