Grundy County, Illinois – A 41-year-old Stickney man is facing charges after allegedly striking a pedestrian and fleeing the Nettle Creek Subdivision on Feb. 7, authorities said.
According to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Feb. 7, 2026, to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the subdivision. Before deputies arrived, the driver allegedly left the scene.
Investigators, assisted by the Morris Police Department and area residents, identified a suspect vehicle using debris from the crash, residential security cameras and license plate reader technology. The vehicle, registered in the Urbana area, was initially not located and was entered into a law enforcement database as a “felony vehicle” due to injuries described as great bodily harm.
The Stickney Police Department later located the vehicle and worked with Grundy County investigators to identify the driver as Gabriel Rivero, 41, of Stickney. Authorities said Rivero allegedly admitted to striking the pedestrian while working as a delivery driver for a logistics company identified as SpeedX.
Officials said Rivero held a valid Illinois driver’s license at the time of the crash. Charges are forthcoming for the offense of motor vehicle crash involving personal injury, according to the sheriff’s office.
The condition of the pedestrian has not been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
