Paducah, Kentucky – Drivers along Interstate 24 and U.S. 60 should prepare for repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms through Thursday night, with rainfall totals reaching 1 to 2 inches by early Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, several waves of rain and storms will move across western Kentucky, southeast Missouri, southern Illinois and southwest Indiana from today through late Thursday. The highest rain chances occur late tonight into Thursday afternoon, with additional showers possible again Friday night into Saturday.

Communities including Paducah, Murray, Mayfield and Hopkinsville could see steady rainfall at times, leading to ponding on roads and brief visibility reductions. Along I-24 from Paducah to the Tennessee state line, heavier bursts may slow traffic during the Thursday morning and evening commutes. Farther north, Evansville and Mount Vernon may pick up around 1 to 1.5 inches of rain before Friday morning.

While widespread flooding is not expected, isolated low-lying areas and poor drainage spots could briefly collect water during heavier downpours. Drivers should never attempt to cross water-covered roads and allow extra stopping distance on slick pavement.

Temperatures will remain well above average through the end of the week. Highs could approach 80 degrees Friday across parts of west Kentucky, adding instability for additional storms.

Rain chances remain elevated into the weekend, and additional advisories may be issued if rainfall becomes heavier or more persistent.
