Rain is falling across the Salt Lake Valley this morning, and the Wasatch peaks are fading into low gray clouds. Pavement is slick along I-15 and I-80, and temperatures sit in the upper 30s.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, rain continues through midmorning before gradual clearing pushes highs near 52 degrees. Winds shift northwest this afternoon around 5 mph. While today stays mostly rain in the valley, colder air is waiting in the wings.

Wednesday turns mostly sunny with a high near 62, offering a brief taste of early spring warmth. Clouds rebuild Wednesday night, and rain chances increase after 11 p.m., with lows near 37.

By Thursday, a stronger system moves in. Rain develops before 8 a.m., then mixes with snow between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Highs reach only 45 degrees. Some thunder is possible, and little to no accumulation is expected in the valley, but benches could see slushy bursts.

Thursday night and Friday keep rain and snow showers in play, especially before 11 a.m. Friday. Highs hold in the mid-40s, and any heavier shower could briefly reduce visibility.

Drivers should stay alert for quick changes, especially during the morning commute Thursday. Wet roads combined with temperatures near freezing can create isolated slick spots.

Clocks spring ahead at 2 a.m. Sunday morning, March 8. Longer daylight arrives as this active March pattern unfolds.

The 6–10 day outlook points toward moderating temperatures into early next week, with signs of spring warmth building again.
