Paducah, Kentucky – Temperatures will surge nearly 40 degrees by Friday afternoon, pushing readings close to 80 degrees along I-24 and US-60 after a chilly, rain-soaked start to the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, an unsettled weather pattern will continue through the first week of March. Rain will taper from west to east Monday afternoon, but additional rounds of showers are expected Tuesday and Wednesday, especially across western Kentucky and southern Illinois. Highs Monday will stay in the 40s to mid-50s before a sharp warm-up begins Tuesday.

By Tuesday afternoon, temperatures will climb into the 60s and 70s, with the warmest air building south of I-24. Showers will redevelop, particularly north of Paducah along the US-60 corridor. Wednesday brings the highest coverage of rain and a few thunderstorms, with highs reaching the mid-70s west of the Purchase Parkway.

Drivers along I-69, I-24 and US-45 should prepare for wet pavement during peak travel times through midweek. While widespread severe weather is not expected at this time, brief downpours could reduce visibility and create ponding on roadways.

Thursday will feature scattered showers and mild temperatures in the upper 60s to mid-70s. By Friday afternoon, a strong push of warm air could send highs toward 80 degrees in parts of western Kentucky, especially near Mayfield and Murray.

Residents should monitor updated statements as rainfall timing becomes clearer. Additional advisories may be issued if thunderstorms strengthen midweek or if localized flooding develops along low-lying roads.
