Vincennes, Indiana – Roads across southwest Indiana could turn slick as early as 2 a.m. Monday as a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain moves in, threatening the morning commute through 9 a.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday for Sullivan, Greene, Knox, Daviess, Martin and Lawrence counties. Forecasters expect up to 1 inch of snow along with a light glaze of ice.
The wintry mix may quickly coat untreated bridges and overpasses, especially along U.S. Route 41, U.S. Route 50 and State Road 37. Communities including Vincennes, Bedford, Bloomfield and Washington could see slippery secondary roads before sunrise. Even a thin layer of ice can reduce traction and increase stopping distances.
Drivers should slow down, allow extra following distance and check Indiana 511 for live road updates before heading out. Conditions are expected to gradually improve after mid-morning as precipitation tapers and temperatures edge above freezing. Additional updates will be issued if ice accumulations increase.
