Beatrice, Nebraska – A light glaze of ice is coating roads across southeast Nebraska early Monday, creating slick spots that could disrupt the morning commute through 9 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Monday for Saline, Jefferson, Gage, Johnson, Nemaha, Pawnee and Richardson counties. Freezing drizzle is expected to continue producing a thin layer of ice on sidewalks, roads and bridges.

Communities including Beatrice, Crete, Fairbury, Auburn and Falls City may see untreated surfaces turn slick before sunrise. Elevated roadways and rural highways are especially vulnerable, as even a light glaze can reduce traction quickly. Slippery sidewalks and driveways could also increase the risk of falls.

Drivers should slow down, allow extra stopping distance and check Nebraska 511 for updated road conditions. Residents are urged to use caution when walking outdoors and to prepare for isolated power issues if icing increases. Conditions should gradually improve after mid-morning as temperatures rise above freezing.
