Huntington, West Virginia – Snow and sleet will coat roads across the Tri-State region before sunrise, creating slick travel conditions through noon Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 4 a.m. until noon for portions of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio and much of western and central West Virginia. Areas impacted include Cabell and Mason counties in West Virginia, Boyd and Greenup counties in Kentucky, and Athens, Gallia and Lawrence counties in Ohio.

Forecasters expect 1 to 2 inches of snow and sleet, along with a light glaze of ice up to a few hundredths of an inch. Even minimal ice can quickly make bridges and overpasses hazardous, especially along Interstate 64, U.S. Route 23 and Route 52 near Huntington, Ashland and Ironton. Secondary roads in Parkersburg, Ripley and Gallipolis may also turn slick during the peak of the morning commute.

Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check 511 or state transportation websites for live road conditions. Sidewalks and steps may also be icy. Conditions are expected to improve early this afternoon as precipitation tapers and temperatures edge above freezing.
