Rainelle, West Virginia – A quarter inch of ice could coat roads and power lines across western Greenbrier County beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, creating the risk of tree damage and scattered power outages through early Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 7 a.m. Monday until 9 a.m. Tuesday for western Greenbrier County, including Rainelle, Quinwood and Duo. Forecasters expect up to 1 inch of snow followed by ice accumulations around one quarter of an inch.

Snow will develop first Monday morning before transitioning to freezing rain. Ice could rapidly accumulate on elevated surfaces, including bridges along Route 60 and secondary mountain roads. With temperatures hovering near freezing, icing may intensify Monday evening, increasing the likelihood of downed limbs and power disruptions.

Travel could become dangerous at times, particularly during the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes. Residents should charge devices, prepare emergency kits and avoid unnecessary travel. Drivers who must travel should carry extra supplies and check 511 for updated road conditions. The warning remains in effect until 9 a.m. Tuesday, and additional alerts may follow if ice totals increase.
