Indiana – A cold northeast breeze cuts through downtown Indianapolis this morning as temperatures sit near 31 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. The air feels raw, and pavement temperatures hover close to freezing.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a wintry mix develops late tonight into early Monday. Snow and sleet totals between 0.5 and 2 inches are possible by the Monday morning commute. Even minor accumulation could create slick stretches on I-65, I-70, and I-465, especially on bridges and ramps.

Plan extra time early Monday. Wet, dense snow can cling to untreated roads and reduce traction quickly. This is prime flash-freeze season. Slush that melts during the afternoon may refreeze after sunset if temperatures dip toward freezing again.

Monday turns mostly cloudy with a high near 42. A slight chance of snow lingers before rain showers develop by afternoon and evening. Rain becomes widespread Monday night with an 80 percent chance.

Tuesday brings steady showers with a 90 percent chance and highs near 57. Rain continues Tuesday night. By Wednesday, temperatures surge to 66 with periods of rain and a chance of thunderstorms. Repeated rounds of moderate to heavy rainfall from Tuesday through late week may increase the risk of waterway flooding and ponding in low-lying areas.

The broader pattern signals a March warm spell ahead. Highs approach the upper 60s to near 70 by Friday. We gain nearly 80 minutes of daylight this month in central Indiana. Clocks spring forward at 2 a.m. next Sunday, March 8.

Five Day Outlook for Indianapolis, Indiana:
Monday: Chance of snow early, then showers, high 42.
Tuesday: Showers, high 57.
Wednesday: Rain and possible thunder, high 66.
Thursday: Rain likely, high 66.
Friday: Rain likely, high 70.
