Wichita, Kan. – Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will bring an active stretch of weather across central and south-central Kansas this week, with the greatest coverage expected along and east of the I-135 corridor.

After a mild start to the week with highs climbing into the upper 50s Monday, temperatures will steadily rise into the 60s and 70s by Tuesday and Wednesday. As warmer air returns, scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.

Tuesday afternoon and evening could feature scattered storms near Wichita, Hutchinson and Newton, potentially affecting travel along I-135 and K-96 through 9 p.m. While severe weather is not guaranteed, brief heavy downpours and gusty winds may reduce visibility and create ponding on roadways.

By Wednesday, additional showers are possible during the morning, followed by partial clearing. However, another system approaches Thursday, bringing renewed storm chances—particularly during the evening and overnight hours. Highs Thursday may approach 80 degrees in south-central Kansas, adding instability to the atmosphere.

Communities along US-54 near El Dorado and US-77 toward Winfield could see multiple rounds of rain before the week ends. Friday remains unsettled, with scattered storms lingering into the afternoon.

Drivers should remain alert for rapidly changing conditions, especially during peak commute times. Wet pavement, brief lightning, and localized heavy rain may impact travel. Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts throughout the week, as timing and storm intensity could shift with each passing system.
