Grand Forks, North Dakota – Drivers across southeast North Dakota and west central Minnesota could hit snow-covered highways by 6 a.m. Saturday as a fast-moving system drops up to 4 inches of accumulation before noon, with isolated pockets nearing 6 inches.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, a Winter Weather Advisory runs from 6 a.m. to noon Saturday for Barnes, Ransom, Sargent and Richland counties in North Dakota, along with Wilkin and Grant counties in Minnesota. Snow totals are expected between 1 and 4 inches, with localized higher bands possible.

The timing targets the early weekend travel window. Roads including Interstate 94 near Valley City and Interstate 29 south of Fargo toward Wahpeton may turn slick quickly after daybreak. U.S. Highway 75 near Breckenridge and Highway 13 through Lisbon could also see reduced traction as snowfall rates briefly intensify.

North Dakota DOT and MnDOT urge motorists to slow down and check 511 road reports before leaving. Even a quick 2-inch burst can create icy stretches on bridges and overpasses.

Snow tapers toward midday Saturday, but untreated roads may remain slippery into the afternoon. Additional advisories could be issued if heavier bands develop.
