Cleveland, Ohio-Pennsylvania Border – Snow could begin coating highways along I-80 and I-90 by 6 a.m. Sunday, with a 30 to 50 percent chance that at least 2 inches accumulates across northern and eastern Ohio into western Pennsylvania before 6 a.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, a developing winter system is expected to sweep east late Saturday night through Sunday night, placing cities from Cleveland and Akron to Youngstown and Pittsburgh in a corridor favorable for accumulating snowfall. The highest probabilities for 2 inches or more currently stretch along and north of the I-76 and I-80 corridors, though slight shifts in the storm track could nudge heavier totals closer to Lake Erie or deeper into central Pennsylvania.

If steady snow develops during the Sunday morning and afternoon travel windows, visibility could drop below one mile in heavier bands. Elevated surfaces, including bridges along I-480 in Cleveland and interchanges on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, may become slick first as surface temperatures hover near freezing.

ODOT and PennDOT crews are monitoring pavement temperatures and preparing plow operations ahead of potential impacts. Road conditions could deteriorate quickly if snowfall rates intensify during peak travel hours.

Residents should plan for slower commutes, check tire tread and allow extra stopping distance. Winter weather advisories may be issued by Saturday as confidence increases in snowfall placement and totals through early Monday morning.
