Fort Wayne, Ind. – Drivers across northern Indiana should use the warm and dry stretch through Friday to prepare for accumulating snow that could reach up to 1 inch along I-69, US-30 and I-80 beginning late Saturday afternoon.

Temperatures will climb into the 50s and even low 60s Friday afternoon, creating a springlike feel across Allen County and surrounding areas. That warmth will fade quickly Saturday as cooler air pushes in from the northwest, setting up a rain-to-snow transition by evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, precipitation chances increase Saturday afternoon, with all snow expected from roughly 5 p.m. through 5 a.m. Sunday. Accumulations up to around 1 inch are possible, especially north of US-30, including communities near Auburn, Angola and the Michigan state line.

Road temperatures may initially limit accumulation, but as readings fall into the 20s overnight, untreated bridges and overpasses on I-469 and I-69 could become slick before sunrise Sunday. Additional snow chances may linger into Sunday night and Monday, prolonging minor travel impacts.

Motorists should monitor updated forecasts, particularly if traveling Saturday evening or early Sunday. Reduce speeds in heavier bursts and allow extra braking distance on elevated roadways.

While significant winter impacts are not expected at this time, even light snow combined with falling temperatures can create hazardous conditions. Additional advisories may be issued if snowfall becomes more widespread or persistent across northern Indiana.
