Wilmington, Ohio – Drivers across southwest and central Ohio should allow extra travel time early Thursday as light precipitation spreads across the region, bringing a mix of rain and snow that could briefly slick portions of I-71, I-75 and US-35 before noon.

Light precipitation began moving in before sunrise, with rain and snow mixing south of the Ohio River and mainly light snow falling north of the mixing line. While accumulations are expected to remain minor, untreated bridges and overpasses could see a light coating during heavier bursts.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, some very minor snow accumulations are possible, especially north of the Ohio River. Areas near Columbus, Springfield and Wilmington could see brief visibility reductions during steadier pockets of precipitation. Farther south toward Cincinnati and Portsmouth, a rain-snow mix will limit accumulation but may still create wet, slick pavement during the morning commute.

Road temperatures hovering in the 30s will help limit widespread impacts, but elevated stretches of I-70 and I-71 may cool enough for patchy slush if snowfall rates increase temporarily.

Motorists should reduce speeds, increase following distance and watch for sudden changes in road conditions, particularly on ramps and rural highways. Conditions are expected to gradually improve late this morning into the afternoon as precipitation tapers off.

No significant winter impacts are anticipated, but additional updates may be issued if snowfall becomes more persistent in localized areas through midday Thursday.
