Cheyenne, Wyoming – Crosswinds strong enough to tip lightweight trailers are hammering key stretches of Interstate 25 and Interstate 80 early Thursday, with even stronger wind gusts expected to redevelop by late afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, a High Wind Warning remains in effect until 11 a.m. MST Thursday for the Bordeaux area along I-25, the North Snowy Range Foothills including Arlington and Elk Mountain along I-80, and the South Laramie Range including the I-80 Summit. Gusts are reaching 65 mph this morning. A second High Wind Warning takes effect at 5 p.m. Thursday and continues until 11 a.m. MST Saturday, bringing west wind gusts up to 80 mph near Bordeaux and up to 70 mph across Arlington, Elk Mountain and the Laramie Range foothills.

In Cheyenne and central Laramie County, winds will ease briefly after 8 a.m. before ramping up again from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, with gusts up to 65 mph.

Transportation faces the greatest risk. Sudden crosswinds between Chugwater and Wheatland and along the I-80 Summit could push high-profile vehicles out of their lanes. Officials urge truckers and RV drivers to delay travel during peak wind periods.

Warnings remain in place through Saturday morning, and additional restrictions are possible if gusts exceed projections.
