Michigan wakes up to a cold, steel-gray sky and a biting 24-degree chill across Grand Rapids. A stiff north wind gusts near 25 mph, pushing wind chills down to around 11 degrees. In far western Mason, Oceana, and Van Buren counties, lake-effect snow showers continue early, leaving pockets of slick pavement. Drivers along US-31 and stretches of I-196 should stay alert for patchy snow cover.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, lake-effect snow diminishes through the morning with little additional accumulation expected inland. Skies turn partly sunny later today, but highs only reach the upper 20s. Cold pavement means any leftover moisture could refreeze late tonight as temperatures drop near 15 degrees.
The next round arrives Tuesday. Snow showers become likely after 1 p.m., with highs near 36 degrees and gusty south winds up to 30 mph. Accumulations stay under a half inch, but bursts of snow could briefly reduce visibility during the late commute, especially north of I-96.
Snow showers remain likely Tuesday night before tapering Wednesday morning. Wednesday stays mostly cloudy with highs near 29 and only a slight snow chance. Another small snow risk returns Thursday before a noticeable rebound.
By Friday, highs jump to the mid-40s under mostly sunny skies. Early 6-to-10-day trends point toward near to above-normal temperatures into early March, signaling gradual spring warmth across southwest Lower Michigan.
