Minnesota is locked in a deep freeze this morning as the Twin Cities wake up under a pale winter sun. Temperatures are sitting at 7 degrees at Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport late this morning. Wind chills dropped below zero earlier, biting exposed skin in minutes.

Side streets and sidewalks remain slick in spots. Any snowmelt from recent days has refrozen, creating patchy icy stretches. Drivers along I-94, I-35W, and Highway 62 should watch for shaded trouble spots.

Skies stay mostly sunny today, but the cold refuses to budge much. Highs only reach around 21 degrees. Light winds help, yet it still feels sharp and midwinter harsh.

Clouds increase tonight with lows near 15 degrees. A more noticeable shift arrives Tuesday. Highs jump to around 37 degrees, and a 40 percent chance of snow develops by afternoon. Some rain could briefly mix in during the warmer part of the day before changing back to snow. Even minor accumulation could create slushy roads by evening.

Temperatures dip back to near 11 degrees Tuesday night, setting up refreeze concerns. Flash freezing is common this time of year when wet pavement turns icy after sunset.

Wednesday brings a high near 23 degrees with a slight chance of snow. Snow chances increase again Wednesday night, with another 40 percent risk of light accumulation into early Thursday. Thursday rebounds to the mid-30s under mostly sunny skies.

By Friday, highs reach the mid-40s, signaling a gradual warming trend. The 6- to 10-day outlook favors above-normal temperatures, hinting at early spring momentum into March.

Five Day Outlook for Minneapolis–St. Paul, Minnesota:
Tuesday: Chance of snow, high 37.
Wednesday: Slight chance snow, high 23.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, high 34.
Friday: Sunny, high 45.
Saturday: Partly sunny, high 29.
