WICHITA — Breezy north winds are expected across south-central and southeast Kansas today, bringing a cooler feel to an otherwise mild early February pattern. According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, north winds will remain breezy through Friday, contributing to fluctuating temperatures and cooler conditions overnight.

Daytime highs today will range from the low to upper 50s, with some locations briefly touching the lower 60s, especially west and southwest of Wichita. Despite the sunshine, persistent north winds will keep conditions feeling cooler, particularly for those traveling along Interstate 35, Interstate 135, U.S. Highway 54, and U.S. Highway 400.

By tonight, temperatures will drop quickly under clearing skies. Overnight lows are expected to settle into the mid to upper 20s, with some lower 30s possible near Wichita and surrounding communities. While no winter precipitation is expected, the combination of breezy winds and falling temperatures may create chilly conditions for late-night travelers and early Saturday morning commuters.

Looking ahead, the weekend brings a notable warm-up. Saturday will remain breezy, but highs will climb back into the low to upper 50s. Sunday and Monday look very mild, with widespread highs reaching the mid-60s to low-70s, making it feel more like early spring than mid-winter across much of Kansas.

The next weather change arrives early next week. A cool down is expected by Wednesday, along with a chance for scattered rain showers Monday night into Tuesday, mainly impacting travel on major corridors including I-35 and US-54. No significant severe weather is anticipated at this time.

Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items, dress in layers for cooler nights, and remain weather-aware as temperatures swing widely over the next several days. While breezy today, conditions across Kansas remain calm overall, with mild weather dominating the extended forecast.
