LOUISVILLE — A fast-moving weather system is sweeping from northwest to southeast across the Ohio Valley today, bringing a brief period of wintry precipitation to portions of southeast Indiana and northeast Kentucky, according to the National Weather Service in Louisville.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 AM to 5 PM Friday, mainly impacting the Kentucky Bluegrass region, where light snow accumulations of up to one inch are possible. The greatest chance for accumulating snow is expected east of Interstate 75 and north of Interstate 64, including areas near Lexington, Frankfort, and surrounding counties.
Snow showers are forecast to develop shortly after 9 AM EST, spreading across southern Indiana and east-central Kentucky through the late morning and early afternoon hours. Precipitation is expected to taper off between 2 PM and 3 PM, limiting overall accumulation. Areas farther southwest, including Louisville and regions closer to the US-150 corridor, may experience a brief wintry mix, with little to no accumulation expected.
While snowfall totals will remain light, slick road conditions could develop during the morning and midday hours, especially on untreated surfaces, bridges, and overpasses. Drivers traveling along I-64, I-75, I-65, and major state routes should use caution and allow extra time to reach their destinations.
Another push of colder air will move into the region this evening into tonight, bringing scattered flurries and light snow showers. Additional accumulation is not expected, but patchy slick spots could redevelop overnight.
Residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware, monitor local forecasts, and prepare for minor travel impacts. While this is not a major winter storm, even light snowfall can create hazardous conditions during busy travel periods.
