Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for higher elevations of southwest Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia as snow and gusty winds are expected to create hazardous travel conditions from Friday morning through late Friday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, snow accumulations between 3 and 6 inches are possible across the watch area, with isolated higher amounts along ridge tops. Winds could gust as high as 45 miles per hour, contributing to blowing and drifting snow.

The watch includes higher elevations of Westmoreland, Fayette, and Indiana counties in Pennsylvania, as well as portions of Monongalia, Preston, and Tucker counties in West Virginia. Communities potentially affected include Ligonier, Ohiopyle, Champion, Donegal, Kingwood, Terra Alta, Davis, Thomas, and Canaan Valley.

Forecasters warn that travel could become very difficult at times, especially during the Friday evening commute. Visibility may drop below one-quarter mile due to falling and blowing snow, particularly in exposed and elevated areas.

Officials advise residents and travelers to monitor forecast updates as the system approaches, as snow amounts and timing may change. Drivers should be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions and reduced visibility during peak snowfall periods.
