Louisville, Kentucky – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect today for portions of southern Indiana and central Kentucky, where accumulating snow is expected to create slippery travel conditions through tonight.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, the advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. Tuesday through midnight EST. Snowfall totals are expected to range from 1 to 2 inches, consisting mainly of wet, slushy snow.

The advisory area includes parts of south central Indiana, including Washington, Scott, Jefferson, and Clark counties, as well as east central and north central Kentucky, including Oldham, Trimble, Henry, Scott, Harrison, Bourbon, and Nicholas counties. Cities affected include Jeffersonville, Madison, Scottsburg, Bedford, La Grange, New Castle, Georgetown, Cynthiana, Paris, and Carlisle.

Snow is expected to develop late this morning and continue into the evening hours. Forecasters note that the afternoon and evening commutes are likely to be impacted as snow accumulates on roadways, particularly on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.

Travel impacts are expected to include slick road conditions, slower travel speeds, and increased stopping distances. While snowfall amounts are not expected to be heavy, even small accumulations of wet snow can cause travel disruptions during peak traffic periods.

The National Weather Service urges drivers to slow down and use caution while traveling. Pedestrians are also advised to watch for icy surfaces on sidewalks, stairs, and driveways, which could increase the risk of slips and falls.

Road condition updates are available through 511 services, including 511in.org for Indiana and goky.ky.gov for Kentucky.

Conditions are expected to improve later tonight after snowfall tapers off, but lingering slick spots may persist into early Wednesday.
