South Bend, Indiana – A low-impact round of light snow is expected across parts of northern Indiana tonight, with minor travel issues possible in a narrow corridor.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service Northern Indiana, there is a 20% to 30% chance of light snow developing tonight, primarily along and south of U.S. Route 30. Any snow that falls is expected to total less than one-half inch, similar to snowfall observed earlier today.

Forecasters say snow showers will be light and intermittent, but slippery travel conditions are possible, especially on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. Impacts are expected to remain localized rather than widespread.

Communities that may see brief snow include South Bend, Elkhart, Warsaw, Plymouth, Fort Wayne, and surrounding areas near the U.S. 30 corridor. Drivers traveling on U.S. 30, U.S. 31, Interstate 80/90, and Interstate 69 should remain alert for changing road conditions during the overnight hours.

The Weather Service noted that snow is expected to end before noon Tuesday, with no significant accumulation anticipated. Overnight lows are forecast to fall into the mid to upper teens, which may allow slick spots to persist into the early morning commute.

By Tuesday afternoon, conditions are expected to improve as clouds thin and temperatures gradually recover into the mid-20s to upper 20s. No additional winter precipitation is expected during the day.

While this event is not expected to cause major disruptions, officials advise motorists to reduce speed when encountering snow-covered pavement and to increase following distance. Even light snow can create hazardous conditions when combined with cold road surfaces.

Students, commuters, and overnight workers should plan for slightly slower travel late tonight and early Tuesday, particularly south of U.S. 30.

Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring official National Weather Service updates for any changes to timing or impacts.
