Nashville, Tennessee – Rain is expected to return across Middle Tennessee on Tuesday, with widespread showers likely to impact travel conditions throughout the day.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Nashville, the region faces an 80% chance of rain on Tuesday as a weather system moves through the area. Rainfall is expected to be steady at times, leading to wet roadways and reduced visibility during peak travel hours.

Forecasters say temperatures Tuesday will range from the mid-40s to near 50 degrees, remaining well above freezing. While no severe weather is anticipated, periods of moderate rain could slow traffic and increase the risk of minor accidents.

Communities including Nashville, Murfreesboro, Franklin, Lebanon, and Clarksville are expected to see rain impacts. Motorists traveling along Interstate 40, Interstate 24, Interstate 65, and U.S. Highway 79 should plan for longer commute times, especially during the Tuesday morning and afternoon periods.

Rain is forecast to taper off late Tuesday night as cooler air briefly settles into the region. Overnight lows are expected to drop into the mid-20s to low 30s, though no winter precipitation is currently forecast.

By Wednesday and Thursday, dry weather is expected to return, with mostly cloudy skies Wednesday giving way to mostly sunny conditions on Thursday. High temperatures will cool into the mid to upper 30s, before gradually warming again heading into the weekend.

The Weather Service emphasized that while Tuesday’s rain will be beneficial for soil moisture, it may create localized ponding on roads and in low-lying areas. Drivers are advised to slow down on wet pavement and avoid distractions during rainy conditions.

Commuters, students, and delivery drivers should monitor conditions Tuesday and allow extra travel time. Additional forecast updates are expected if timing or rainfall coverage changes.
