Pueblo, Colorado – Dangerous cold conditions are spreading across southern Colorado, with subzero wind chills expected through Sunday morning under a Cold Weather Advisory.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, Arctic air is pushing into the plains Friday, with a stronger surge of colder air arriving later this evening and overnight. The coldest temperatures and wind chills are expected from tonight through Sunday morning.

Forecasters say wind chill values will fall well below zero tonight, Saturday night, and Sunday night, with the coldest readings expected across the far eastern plains. Wind chills in the teens and twenties below zero are possible, creating a high risk of frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect from 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday morning for portions of the eastern plains. Cities including Pueblo, La Junta, Springfield, Lamar, and surrounding communities are expected to experience the most dangerous wind chills.

The National Weather Service urges residents to limit time outdoors, dress in layers, and protect exposed skin. Officials also recommend bringing pets indoors and checking on vulnerable neighbors during the coldest periods.

Snow is also expected across much of the region, which could combine with the extreme cold to create hazardous travel conditions, particularly overnight and early in the morning.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and take precautions as the Arctic cold persists through the weekend.
