Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Dangerous cold conditions are impacting southeast Wisconsin, with wind chills as low as -40 degrees prompting an Extreme Cold Warning and Cold Weather Advisory through Saturday.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan office, wind chills between -25 and -40 degrees are expected within the Extreme Cold Warning area across central and east-central Wisconsin through Friday evening. Farther south, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect, where wind chills of -20 to -30 degrees are expected later Friday into Saturday morning.
Forecasters warn that frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes under these conditions. The extreme cold is being driven by Arctic air lingering across the region, with dangerously low temperatures continuing into the weekend.
The National Weather Service said cold weather impacts may persist into next week, extending the risk of hypothermia and frostbite for anyone spending extended time outdoors. Officials urge residents to limit outdoor exposure, wear layered winter clothing, and ensure hats, gloves, and face coverings are used.
Pet owners are advised to bring animals indoors, and residents are encouraged to check on elderly neighbors and those without adequate heating. Drivers should also be prepared for cold-related vehicle issues, including dead batteries and reduced tire pressure.
Weather officials emphasize that these conditions are life-threatening and urge residents to take warnings seriously until temperatures moderate.
