Washington, D.C. – Persistent cloud cover and a few isolated storms are keeping much of Maryland and northern Virginia under gray skies this afternoon, with temperatures holding in the low to mid-70s across most of the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, a southeast-moving front is working in tandem with offshore Hurricane Erin, limiting sunshine and bringing moisture to the area. A few spotty showers or brief thunderstorms may develop, particularly south of US-33 and west of US-29—affecting communities from Charlottesville to Staunton and nearby foothill areas.

In central and northern Maryland, including Frederick, Westminster, and Hagerstown, skies will remain mostly cloudy with highs near 71°F. The I-95 corridor, including Baltimore and Washington, D.C., may see slight clearing by evening, though overcast skies will linger for much of the day.

Drivers across rural Virginia routes, especially near Orange, Luray, and Warrenton, should remain alert for brief downpours or slick conditions. No severe weather is expected, but visibility could briefly drop during isolated storms.

Skies are expected to gradually clear late Thursday evening, with more sunshine and warmer temperatures returning by Friday.
