Philadelphia, PA – Brief but potentially disruptive thunderstorms could pop up across Philadelphia Friday afternoon, with the highest chance of rain between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Temperatures will reach near 88°F, but a mix of sun and clouds may turn stormy during peak travel and outdoor activity hours.

According to the National Weather Service, the chance of storms is about 20%, but any cells that form could produce brief downpours and lightning. Winds will be light from the northeast around 5 mph, limiting storm movement and potentially increasing rainfall rates in localized areas.

The timing could cause slowdowns along I-95, the Schuylkill Expressway, and regional rail services. Residents planning to attend outdoor events, head to parks, or dine outside Friday should keep a close eye on the sky, especially in the late afternoon.

Storm chances diminish by early evening, with mostly clear skies returning for Saturday. The weekend will feature warm and mostly sunny weather, with highs near 88°F Saturday and climbing to 92°F Sunday, making it ideal for summer activities ahead of next week’s return to more unsettled conditions.
