Pueblo, Colo. – Heat will intensify across southern Colorado this week, with plains communities facing near triple-digit temperatures by Thursday while higher elevations contend with daily thunderstorms. The warming trend will be most pronounced east of the mountains, where conditions remain dry.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, Tuesday will bring highs between 82 and 88 degrees across the plains under sunny skies, climbing to 89–97 degrees Wednesday and reaching 92–100 degrees Thursday. Mountain valleys will see highs in the upper 70s to upper 80s with a slight chance of afternoon storms, while the central and southwest mountains face a 30–40% storm chance each day.

Travelers heading into the mountains should prepare for quick changes in weather, as lightning, brief downpours, and gusty winds could develop each afternoon. Outdoor workers in the plains are advised to stay hydrated and limit strenuous activity during peak heat.

The warm, mostly dry pattern will hold for lower elevations into the weekend, but afternoon storm chances will persist in the mountains. Updates on any expanding storm threats will be issued as conditions evolve.
