Charleston, West Virginia – Temperatures near triple digits and a late-day thunderstorm threat will disrupt Tuesday afternoon plans across the Charleston area.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms begins around 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 29. The heat index could spike to 103°F by midday, prompting an ongoing Extreme Heat Warning through 8 p.m. Monday, July 28. Although that warning ends before Tuesday’s peak, lingering humidity will keep conditions sweltering.

Widespread fog will lift by morning, giving way to mostly sunny skies and a high of 92°F. Calm winds and rising humidity will make for an uncomfortable day across Kanawha County and surrounding areas. Storms may be isolated, but quick downpours and lightning could cause delays along I-64 and local roadways by early evening.

Residents should limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors as heat and humidity climb. Charge devices and prepare for possible brief power disruptions if storms intensify.

☀️ Five-Day Charleston, WV Forecast (July 29 – August 3)

  • Tuesday: Fog early, then mostly sunny. Thunderstorms after 4 p.m. High 92°F.
  • Wednesday: Mostly sunny, slight shower chance after 2 p.m. High near 95°F.
  • Thursday: 50% chance of storms, mainly after 2 p.m. High 85°F.
  • Friday: Showers possible by 2 p.m., mostly cloudy. High 80°F.
  • Saturday: Mostly sunny, breezy and drier. High 82°F.
  • Sunday: Partly sunny, cooler with a high near 81°F.

Thunderstorms will remain a daily risk through Friday, before more comfortable summer weather moves in for the weekend.
