Breaux Bridge, LA – A 16-year-old from Breaux Bridge was killed early Wednesday in a crash involving an electric scooter and a sedan in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana.

According to Louisiana State Police, the fatal crash happened shortly after 12:00 a.m. on Louisiana Highway 347 near Jolie Blonde Road. Da’Marion Lagrange was riding an electric scooter without headlights in the southbound lane of LA Hwy 347, reportedly against the flow of traffic, when he was struck from behind by a 2015 Chrysler 300 attempting to pass another vehicle.

Lagrange, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries and later died. The driver of the Chrysler was reportedly restrained and uninjured. Authorities said the driver voluntarily submitted to a breath test, which showed no alcohol, and also submitted to a standard toxicology screening.

The crash remains under investigation.

State police cited Louisiana law requiring electric scooter operators to travel with traffic, use lighting and brakes, and wear helmets if under 17. Authorities emphasized the importance of safety measures, noting that adherence to traffic laws and proper equipment significantly lowers the risk of crashes.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Louisiana State Police Troop I.
