Hastings, NE – Residents across portions of south central Nebraska and north central Kansas are being urged to remain vigilant as the National Weather Service has extended a Flood Watch through early Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, the Flood Watch remains in effect until 3 a.m. Tuesday for Adams, Clay, Fillmore, Franklin, Nuckolls, Thayer, and Webster counties in Nebraska, as well as Jewell and Smith counties in Kansas. A separate alert has also been issued for Mitchell, Osborne, and Rooks counties in north central Kansas.

Meteorologists warn that thunderstorms are expected to persist in the region, potentially producing periods of heavy rainfall. According to forecasters, this may lead to flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas, near rivers, creeks, and streams. Excessive runoff could create dangerous travel conditions and may threaten property in flood-prone locations.

The National Weather Service advises residents to closely monitor weather updates and be prepared to act quickly if additional warnings are issued. Local officials recommend avoiding travel through flooded roadways and to seek higher ground if flooding develops nearby.

Forecasters note that the most at-risk communities include Hastings, Geneva, Superior, Red Cloud, Hebron, Mankato, Osborne, Beloit, Stockton, and Plainville. According to the National Weather Service, rainfall is expected to taper off after midnight, but isolated pockets of heavier precipitation may linger.

For more information on flood safety and preparedness, residents are encouraged to visit the National Weather Service website at weather.gov/safety/flood.
