Hastings, Nebraska – A heat advisory remains in effect from noon today until 8 p.m. CDT Tuesday, as a dangerous combination of high temperatures and humidity is set to affect central and northern parts of Kansas and Nebraska. Heat indices are expected to range from 102°F to 108°F during the late afternoon and early evening hours, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.

According to the National Weather Service, the heat advisory covers all of north-central Kansas and portions of central, east-central, and south-central Nebraska. With the high heat and humidity, residents in the affected regions should take immediate precautions to protect their health.

The National Weather Service advises staying in air-conditioned environments when possible, drinking plenty of fluids, and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun. It’s crucial to check on elderly relatives and neighbors, especially those who may be more vulnerable to the heat.

In addition, outdoor workers should schedule frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned spaces to reduce the risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Anyone feeling dizzy, nauseous, or faint should seek immediate medical attention.

The advisory is expected to expire at 8 p.m. Tuesday, but residents should remain alert for any additional updates. Stay tuned for further details as conditions may change.
