Wakefield, Virginia – Residents across south-central Virginia and the Maryland Eastern Shore should prepare for additional heavy rainfall and potential localized flash flooding today. A Flood Watch remains in effect until 2 AM Friday for areas that have already seen two to six inches of rain over the past two days.

According to the US National Weather Service Wakefield VA, showers and storms are possible again today, with the most likely timing for severe weather between 2 PM and 10 PM. While overall storm coverage is expected to be less extensive than previous days, slow-moving thunderstorms could bring two to three inches of rain in short periods to isolated spots.

Cities like Richmond, Petersburg, Norfolk, and Williamsburg, which have experienced significant rainfall recently, are particularly vulnerable to localized flooding. Drivers should exercise extreme caution, as standing water can quickly obscure road hazards. Avoid non-essential travel during peak storm times and never drive through flooded roadways. Residents in flood-prone areas should secure outdoor items and be prepared to move to higher ground if conditions worsen.

The extended Flood Watch emphasizes the persistent threat, even with scattered storm coverage. Officials advise charging electronic devices and having an emergency plan in place. Further advisories or warnings may be issued as conditions evolve throughout the day and into tonight.
