Phoenix, Arizona – A relentless wave of heat will bear down on central Arizona beginning Friday, with Phoenix temperatures soaring to 109°F by the afternoon. This summer weather alert includes the entire Valley, especially commuters along Interstate 10, where vehicle breakdowns and heat exposure risks rise dramatically.

According to the National Weather Service, Friday’s high of 109°F marks the start of an extended stretch of dangerous heat. Winds could gust up to 20 mph in the afternoon, raising wildfire and dehydration risks. Phoenix will see no overnight cooling relief, with lows barely dipping below 86°F. Residents should limit time outdoors, drink plenty of water, and avoid strenuous activities during peak sun hours.

Saturday and Sunday continue the triple-digit trend, with highs near 108°F under sunny skies and light winds. The pattern of extreme daytime heat paired with warm, stagnant nights will continue through early next week.

Monday and Tuesday both bring 107°F highs with minimal cloud cover. However, by Tuesday night, a 20% chance of isolated thunderstorms may introduce brief relief—though lightning and gusty winds could complicate conditions. A slight chance of showers continues into Wednesday, with temperatures slightly easing to around 105°F.

This prolonged heatwave poses serious health risks, especially for older adults, outdoor workers, and pets. Valley residents should check on neighbors, seek air conditioning, and avoid travel during peak afternoon heat.

⚠️ Heat advisories or additional alerts may be issued through midweek. Check the NWS Phoenix office for updated guidance.
