Fort Wayne, Ind. – Scattered thunderstorms could hit Allen County just as afternoon traffic builds on Friday, bringing bursts of rain and dangerous heat to northeast Indiana.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, there’s a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Friday, with high temperatures reaching 91°F. Heat index values may top 97°F. Calm morning conditions will shift as winds become southwest near 5 mph — potentially feeding storm development. Those traveling on I-69, US-30, or IN-3 should prepare for reduced visibility and wet pavement.

Saturday continues the unsettled pattern with a 50% chance of afternoon storms. Highs will hit 92°F, with muggy air and brief downpours likely across Fort Wayne, Auburn, and Columbia City. Storms could carry gusty winds and brief lightning, especially into Saturday night.

Sunday brings more scattered thunderstorm chances, mainly after 8 a.m. Temperatures dip slightly, with highs near 85°F, but clouds and humidity will keep things sticky. Sunday night stays unsettled, with lingering rain chances before midnight.

By Monday, skies clear and dry weather returns, offering a break from the weekend turbulence. Expect sunshine and highs in the upper 80s through Tuesday, but slight rain chances return by midweek.

⚠️ Residents are urged to avoid outdoor work during peak heat Friday and Saturday and to monitor changing radar conditions before travel.
