Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Flooding, sweltering heat, and the threat of damaging storms will collide across western Pennsylvania on Saturday as multiple weather hazards continue to develop.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Flood Watch remains in effect for Allegheny County and surrounding areas through Saturday evening, as a potent system brings rounds of heavy rainfall—especially between 2 and 8 p.m. Localized totals may exceed one inch, prompting dangerous runoff on roads like I-376 and Route 28. Thunderstorms will also roll through the region Saturday afternoon, with wind gusts capable of downing branches and causing isolated power outages.

Heat remains a secondary threat. A Heat Advisory expires at 8 p.m. Friday, but heat index values may again climb near 95° in urban areas like Bloomfield and Shadyside by Saturday afternoon. Residents should stay hydrated, avoid outdoor labor during peak heat hours, and ensure pets and the elderly remain cool.

Showers will taper by late Saturday night, giving way to a sunny and calmer Sunday. However, the active pattern returns Monday with another round of afternoon storms. Motorists should remain alert for wet commutes and ponding on highways.

Five-Day Forecast for Pittsburgh (June 27 – July 1):

  • Friday: High 88°F – Storms after 3 p.m., locally heavy rain (Flood Watch active)
  • Saturday: High 86°F – Showers, storms likely 2–8 p.m., gusty winds, flash flood risk
  • Sunday: High 89°F – Mostly sunny, calm winds
  • Monday: High 88°F – Afternoon showers and thunderstorms likely
  • Tuesday: High 84°F – Another round of late-day storms, partly cloudy early
