Tampa, Florida – Storms are set to return to central Florida Saturday morning, bringing potential disruptions to weekend plans across Tampa Bay and surrounding areas. With rain chances peaking by 11 a.m. and a heat index nearing 99°F, those hitting I-275 or planning outdoor events should brace for downpours and limited visibility.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered thunderstorms will develop late Saturday morning and continue through the evening. Highs will reach 92°F, but the heat index could push conditions closer to triple digits. Rainfall amounts remain light overall, though isolated storms may produce brief heavy downpours and gusty winds.

Localized flooding and slick roads may impact traffic near downtown Tampa, St. Petersburg, and major routes like I-4 and U.S. 41. Winds from the southwest at 5 to 8 mph may shift northward in the evening, aiding storm development inland. Residents are urged to secure loose items, avoid flooded streets, and monitor NOAA weather alerts throughout the day.

Looking ahead, Sunday offers no reprieve: thunderstorms are expected after 2 p.m. with highs again near 91°F. Rain chances ramp up further Monday and Tuesday with back-to-back storm systems keeping the region unsettled.

Stay weather aware through Tuesday, as the NWS notes a 70–80% chance of rain Monday and Tuesday with overnight thunderstorm activity.

Five-Day Tampa Forecast (June 27 – July 1):

  • Friday: High 91°F – Scattered PM thunderstorms (50% chance)
  • Saturday: High 92°F – Thunderstorms likely from 11 a.m. onward (60%)
  • Sunday: High 91°F – Thunderstorms after 2 p.m. (60%)
  • Monday: High 90°F – Thunderstorms likely after 8 a.m. (70%)
