DuPage County, Ill. — Addison teenager Emmanuel Rivera, who was charged with leading the police on a high-speed chase and illegal possession of a firearm, was denied pretrial today. DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Wood Dale Chief of Police Chris Zito announced that Judge Alexander McGimpsey granted the State’s motion on June 27.
Rivera, 18, appeared in First Appearance Court yesterday afternoon. He was charged with two counts of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding (Class 4 Felony), one count of Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Class 4 Felony) and multiple Misdemeanor and petty traffic offenses including Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Damage to an Attended Vehicle and Speeding – 35+MPH Over Limit.
On June 24, Wood Dale police responded to a call about a disturbance involving a white Nissan Sentra. When the vehicle was spotted going north on Maple Avenue, officers engaged patrol lights to perform a traffic stop. The Nissan allegedly did not pull over and ignored a stop sign as the driver fled east on Elmhurst Street. He allegedly fled at speeds over 60 miles per hour in a 20-mph zone. When Rivera turned southbound on Route 83 from Elmhurst Street, he allegedly hit a median and disabled his vehicle. Rivera and several other occupants of the vehicle fled on foot.
Investigation into the chase confirmed Rivera as the driver. Later that evening, Rivera turned himself in to Wood Dale police. Officers found a Glock 27, sub-compact, .40 caliber handgun loaded with one bullet while searching the vehicle.
Rivera’s next appearance in court is scheduled for July 21, 2025.
