Rensselaer, NY – Thunderstorms are set to roll into eastern New York by Friday evening, potentially snarling traffic and disrupting weekend plans across Rensselaer County.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, showers are likely after 5 p.m. Friday, with thunderstorm chances increasing into Friday night. Rainfall amounts may vary, but localized downpours could lead to ponding on roads, especially near Route 4 and I-90. Winds may gust up to 20 mph during storms. Residents should secure outdoor items and charge devices in case of isolated power outages.

Saturday brings another round of unsettled weather, with strong thunderstorms possible between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Showers may linger into the evening. Rain totals could top half an inch, with thunder, lightning, and heavy bursts making travel hazardous at times.

Sunday offers a break, with partly sunny skies and highs in the low 80s. But the relief is brief — Monday’s high surges to 90°F with more afternoon thunderstorms possible, ushering in a steamy and active start to the new week.
