Tampa, Florida – A sweltering Saturday is ahead for Tampa as heat and scattered thunderstorms are expected to build by late morning, putting outdoor plans and road travel at risk. I-275 drivers should be alert for reduced visibility and wet pavement between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., with the heat index soaring near 103°F.

According to the National Weather Service, storms may begin after 11 a.m. Saturday, bringing locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds to Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. Rain chances stand at 40%, and any thunderstorms could quickly intensify, especially in areas with recent high heat buildup.

Saturday’s high will reach near 93°F under mostly sunny skies before storms roll through. Winds will be light from the southeast at 6 mph, but temperatures will feel significantly hotter due to high humidity. Storm chances continue Saturday night into Sunday morning, followed by a similar weather pattern Sunday with a high of 94°F.

By Monday, isolated thunderstorms will remain in the forecast, especially after 1 p.m., with slightly cooler highs around 93°F. Storms persist into Tuesday, mainly after 2 p.m., as Florida stays locked in a wet, tropical pattern.

Drivers and residents should:

  • Avoid midday outdoor activity
  • Check weather apps before weekend plans
  • Stay hydrated and seek shade during peak heat

More storms and muggy heat are likely into midweek. Another advisory may be issued if severe conditions develop.
