Detroit, MI – Michigan’s weather heads into a volatile stretch Friday as temperatures climb into the low 90s and thunderstorms threaten afternoon plans in Detroit and across southeast counties.

According to the National Weather Service, the risk of isolated thunderstorms returns after 5 a.m. Friday with a 30% chance of rain persisting through early evening. Highs will reach near 85°F Friday and jump to 92°F Saturday, with heat index values peaking even higher. Gusty winds from the south may exceed 20 mph by Saturday afternoon, making outdoor conditions uncomfortable and potentially dangerous for vulnerable populations.

Detroit drivers along I-75 and I-94 should remain alert for slick conditions Friday morning and again Saturday as isolated storms develop. Power outages and minor flooding can’t be ruled out, especially where rainfall is locally heavy. While storms will be scattered, heat will be widespread and persistent through Monday.

Residents are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activity, drink plenty of water, and check on neighbors without air conditioning. Although Saturday brings another 30% chance of rain, Sunday and Monday look dry but blisteringly hot with highs of 97°F and 98°F, respectively.

No new alerts are in place yet, but additional heat advisories could be issued if temperatures and humidity spike further.

Five-Day Forecast for Detroit, MI (Updated June 19)
