Philadelphia, PA – Dangerous thunderstorms could sweep across eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware between 4 and 10 p.m. Thursday, with wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph and the potential for localized flash flooding in urban areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, hot and humid conditions are fueling rapid storm development this afternoon. Much of the region is under a Level 2 or Level 3 severe weather risk, meaning scattered to numerous severe storms are possible. Areas under Level 3 risk include Philadelphia, Wilmington, and much of South Jersey.

Widespread power outages, downed trees, and travel disruptions are likely during the evening commute, particularly along I-95, the Atlantic City Expressway, and portions of the New Jersey Turnpike. Storms may also bring hail and frequent lightning.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge devices, and avoid travel during peak storm hours. Storms will move west to east, hitting Allentown and Reading earlier, then sweeping toward Toms River and Cape May closer to nightfall.

The risk of flash flooding is heightened in low-lying neighborhoods and urban centers due to rapid rainfall. Emergency updates will continue into the evening.
