Boston, MA – Scattered severe thunderstorms and dangerous heat are expected to slam parts of Massachusetts this afternoon, with damaging wind gusts and heat indices nearing 100° creating a double threat for residents.

According to the National Weather Service Boston, storms could spark between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. Thursday, primarily across interior Southern New England. The main hazard is straight-line wind gusts, with the potential for large hail and an isolated tornado. The region is under a Level 2 (Slight Risk) for severe weather, especially from Greenfield to Worcester and stretching down into northern Connecticut.

A separate Heat Advisory is also in effect through 8 p.m. for much of central and northern Massachusetts, including Springfield, Fitchburg, and Hartford, CT, where humidity will push the real-feel temperature to 100°. The heat, paired with storm activity, could worsen the risk of heat exhaustion and power outages if trees or lines come down.

Residents should limit outdoor activity, hydrate often, and stay indoors with air conditioning where possible. If travel is necessary, be prepared for sudden downpours, debris on roads, and rapidly changing conditions.

More updates and potential warnings are expected as storms develop through the evening.
